Pong - the originality & simplicity

'Pong - the originality & simplicity'

Back in 1972, when Pong was released by the company Atari and it was an immense success within short time and it triggered the start of the video game industry. Because of this game, the video game industry have boomed and have grasped people's attention.

This game, Pong, was a very simple game to play that all generation of people can play without any difficulties, which is designed to play in bars, at home using console or in arcade. However, there were obviously some flaws of this game's mechanic or function. It does concern to most of games but one of the major problem was that if you play the game constantly, it is inevitable that the player will be bored or get sick of it because of this simple game mechanic, which is moving up and down of the bar to send the ball to the other side. If there were more complexity for this game or higher difficulties for this game, it would have been more successful.

One of the ingenious part of this game was that due to its simplicity and competitiveness of this game is the main success which brought huge attention to this game. Pong, in my personal opinion, have brought a new generation towards to video game and boosted up the technology towards to computer and art sections.

Process: Alien no.3

Inspired by the movie 'District 9', tried to create one of my own prawn-looking alien. (still in the progress)

Process: Alien no.2

After the first try of Alien no.1, it was time to do more practical works, to gain even more experiences in using Zbrush.

Alien no.1

Progression of my very first Zbrush character, Alien no.1

Final Aim/Decision

After a week of consideration of thinking and to prepare for the presentation, quick & precise decision had to be made with an idea of portraying my own version of a 3D character model through using different software such as Maya/Zbrush. However, 3D character alone won't be sufficient enough to emphasize the model thus putting background/environment on the model would look visually more stunning.

For this project, I wanted to create a character with strong purporse, as if they are a living reature with personality attached to it and to show where these characters will fit in certain roles or environment, which I wanted to see the differences between working in 2D and 3D.
Also, understanding of the basic bone structures of human or animals would be rather essential towards to what I'm trying to achieve, for example, desirable positions of the character or the shape of the character etc.
Moreover, I wanted to purposefully design the character to fit the role and purpose.

In the near future, hopefully, I will have more dynamic character designs. Also, it would be desirable to have a further understanding of bone structures/proportions of creatures which I haven't come across yet, and a further progression of background & 3D character combination.
